Depends where you go. Some tuners spend 100's of hours of dyno and on-road time developing their software by altering up to 40+ maps and then each and every customer they get in will have their car installed onto a dyno and tuned/tested and tuned again until everything is as it should be. This means that they will need premises, expensive tools, staff with backgrounds in both automotive sectors and software development etc....
Some spend 1-2 hours playing with 2 or 3 maps (or just copy and paste something from a disc bought on ebay), no dyno development, no testing no real tuning just a man in a van with a laptop, some ebay tools and sell them for £150 in a layby.
Map 1 will have customer support, backup, proper facilities and will be safe and reliable. Map 2 is likely to be poorly made and probably has no support, no after sales service and could harm your engine.
Take your pick
