to powder coat or not to powder coat
« on: September 07, 2011, 06:46:09 pm »
ok so as im having my new air ride fitted soon  :jumpmove: :jumpmove: ive also decided to have some new alloys, these beautys. the fifteen52 tarmac`s

but my problem is i have a friend who has a bodywork repair shop who ive had some alloys sparyed b4, which look awesome, really top job    but they dont do powder coating  :s

now do i take the alloys for a standard paint spray and get mates rates  or do i pay that bit extra and go elsewhere for a powder coating?

im going for a lime green colour lol  :rolleye: not to everyones taste, but i need to be different and they would look pretty sweet on my slammed candy white

i dont rerally know what the advantages of having powder coating would be so any help would be much appreciated

Doesn't help you decide but I like them!  How much do they weigh?

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I think that powdercoating is much more durable than just paint.

Powder coating involves spraying a powder onto the item and baking in an oven, wet painting isnt as durable as powder coating.

A powder coatec wheel will stay looking good far longer than a wet painted wheel as it doesnt tarnish by hot brake dust and small stone chips etc...

iv had both painted and powder coated wheels and id go powder coat every time.
paint seems to chip where as powder coat gets more of a dent

Great choice of wheel and the colour you have decided on  :happy2: ( bit biast as i have kawasaki green wheels too  )

Love the tarmacs, a great set of wheels that are still pretty rare over here.
Don't know about your paints but I do look forward to seeing your car with them on!

Took my "winters" for powder coating today. I must admit the ones he had on display looked pretty good.

I wouldn't bother painting, however - make sure you remove any powdercoat from the bolt hole tapers and the back of the wheel that meets the disc. It has a tendancy to melt, causing your wheels to undo themselves.

BTW - they're a superb wheel  :happy2:
Sideways yo!
