Autohaus plate surrounds
« on: November 28, 2011, 10:07:10 pm »
Has anyone fitted these to their GTI?

http://www.awesome-gti.co.uk/product.php?xProd=14262

At the moment my plates are stuck on and the front plate keeps popping loose on one corner which is starting to annoy me. So I need to screw it on and was thinking of maybe fitting a set of these plate surrounds at the front and back while I'm at it. Just wondered if anyone else has them and if so are they easy to fit? Also does anyone have any pictures of them on a MK5? Just want to make sure they look OK and not OTT

They are to big for the front in my opinion not many people use the front one.

I agree as the standard no. plate surround sticks out enough without the addition of the Autohaus surround.  So I removed the standard one and it fits really well and sticks out less now.

You just need a way of attaching the Autohaus one on there which isn't too tricky.

Andy, when you fitted the front one is it just a case of removing the standard surround and using the same holes to attach the autohaus surround, or do you have to drill new holes? Also does it bend with the camber on the front OK?

Hi Jake.

Yeah you need to remove the entire plate surround which has some plastic clip type things. There's four of them in total. Just pop the grill off and you can get to everywhere you need to.

Yes it does mean drilling some holes, just do it carefully and take your time aligning them. I just used some very small screws with washers, and lock thread nuts.

It bends to the shape of the grill no problem.

Andy.

Did exactly the same as Andy and removed the standard number plate mount but instead of drilling new holes in the grill i just made extra holes in the new surround to line up with the ones on the grill  actually suprised me that with the amount of holes and different locations all over the back of the autohaus surround to help line up none of them did  :signLOL:
