Need help! / 2008 MK5 DSG >>>PCV VALVE PROBLEM
« on: February 28, 2012, 11:17:37 pm »
Hello everyone, need some help here.

The PCV VALVE on my mk5 failed. The dealership tells me the part will arrive in aprox 1 week from today. My preoccupation is: Can i keep driving the car, taking it easy... or is it better to leave it on the garage while the part arrives?

The failure is the usual: erratic idle speed when hot, whining sound after long drives (when hot), air noise when removing the dipstick....

What do you recommend?

Thanks!!!

The only issue you will have is the engine wont perform at its best.  Your mpgs will go down but it will be safe to drive until the part arrives.  If you cant wait that long I would apporach your local TPS and fit one yourself.  The part will be cheaper and they take about 20 mins to fit max!

Ok Thanks! Have another question... when i turn of the car after driving short distances (cold), i can hear an "air leak" sound for a few seconds; is this another symptom of a pcv failure?

The pcv is like the dv in that it has a diaphragm inside it only. You can keep driving it. I've replaced it three times before switching to a BSH stage 1 pcv fix, which eliminates the diaphragm. A catch-can system gives you this upgrade as well with benefits.

I had all the fixes from bsh and switched back to the std pcv. I found the engine ran smoother. If its good enough for the golf race cars its good enough for my car lol

Yes, they continue upgrading both the pcv and dv. So keeping up with the newest version is good to do for sure. :happy2:
