MK 4 Golf Engine revving
« on: September 13, 2012, 01:56:37 pm »
Hi,

My golf is revving to 1500rpm itself when i take the foot off the accelerator, every so often. Any ideas what is wrong? Its a 1999 mark 4 GTI.

Mark

Hi Mark, forgive me, but a Mk V Golf GTi from 1999, are you sure?? If the rev's are going up by themselves, i'd suggest a PCV valve problem...

to be honest mate, not even sure what it's actually for, but if you do a search on here, you'll find a whole host of information about it. As yours is a Mk IV, it might be another problem, somebody here might be able to give you more help on this than me though...!!??

Mk 4s dont have the pcv same as the mk5, as said could be throttle body sticking, maf, diverter valve,  you could do with scanning for fault codes.

i had this on my old mk4 1999 1.6.. i changed the MAF and cleaned the throttle body out and it was fine.

go over to uk-mkivs forum this problem pops up a lot and theres a lot of great writes ups  about it if you search.
