Clutch & Dual Mass replaced - still noise???
« on: December 22, 2012, 01:18:26 pm »
Had car back after new dmf and Clutch fitted, picked it up
but still making the tick tick tick noise which goes when clutch pressed down same as before, it's doesn't seem as noisy but its still their???? Have told the garage who said being it back and they will take a look.

What could this be now?
Why is it still making the noise after replacing dmf/clutch kit?

Seen the dmf and clutch which defiantly needed replacing so needed to be done just diassaponted
still got the noise. Seems a bit noticy changing gears but nothing to bad..

It was a full Sachs dmf/clutch kit and was told it had everything needed. Garage who did are good so will ask when I pop it back Monday. My dmf was shot and clutch had not much left so needed doing just a shame that if this bit wasn't done at the same time it's has to in again!!!

My Cupra done this from having 1000 miles on it.
At 9000 miles I fitted a Sachs updated clutch and new dual mass flywheel and  new release bearing and yes it still does it.
This noise is not uncommon and isn't anything to worry about.

I've had a few Sachs DMF + clutch kits that didn't include the release bearing. They don't unless you specify the 3 piece kit.

It's noise from the input shaft in the gearbox.  Slight play in the bearings.  Nothing to really worry about tbh.

A lot of flywheels are replaced prematurely imo. The stock TFSI flywheel has loads of play in it even when new.  Anyone who hasn't checked a new flywheel before would just assume that it was fooked.

Unless it's juddering or slipping then it doesn't really need replacing.  If it is noisy then it tends to be very loud.

Done a 150 mile trip today and ticking still their plus seem to notice a drone noise when accelerating particulary in 1st/2nd gears coupled with changing gears being a little notchy. Now I know my interest in this area of the car is heightened due to replacement of DMF and clutch etc but do mk5 suffer from gearbox problems I.e. bearings etc? Any experiences with his anyone and possible solutions/what to look for.

The input shaft bearings are crap on the 02q boxes and can suffer from over 10mm of play. This can cause all the symptoms you are having.  Only way to check this it to remove the box and check for play in the shaft.

The box would either need a new bearing, shimming or a different larger bearing can be fitted.

Illl second that Al, Seen lots of failures lately
The last few have been the main end case bearings failing causing float under power
Thats normally the case if you get noise under load then disappears when lifting off power
Had some weird stuff happening too with the high torque cars lately
If the noise is only at idle I'd guess it to be ok
Drop the box oil & check for any metal frag, fresh oil may help the gear change but won't quiet it down any

Thanks for the info!! Took it back to the garage first thing, technician came out with me and noticed it particulary when in passenger seat, he said sounds like DMF has gone if I didn't know it had a new one fitted. Taking it back Friday for them to have a good listen again before dropping the box to have a better look. Its seems to be getting a bot worse now also with the drone noise in 1st gear trawaling very noticable in the NCP just now along with a whiff of clutch????  :scared: Question is should they garage drop the box and have a look and fix for free or charge me?
