Waxing the bonnet.......went wrong

I decided to wash the car and wax the bonnet. I waxed the bonnet in sections and buffed it off BUT seems I didn't do it very well, as if you look at the bonnet at a slight angle, you can see swirl-like marks aka the polish. How does one get rid of this as buffing seems to do nothing?

I'm going to get a mate to do a proper detail and machine polish but in the meanwhile, how do I do it?

You shouldn't need to wax a bonnet in sections. If I was you I'd remove the wax and try again. I always finish by passing over the wax with a microfibre in straight lines.

Ahh, I thought the doing the whole bonnet in one could see the wax dry without buffing hence split into 3 sections.

So, will a wash and clay bar be sufficient?

Maybe it's how I do it. I go wax, and buff with a microfibre cloth in a up/down/left/right direction. Is that right? Likewise, passing over wax in straight lines....is that literally just buffing in a straight line?

..........don't put too much on the applicator pad/micro fibre cloth. couple of blobs around the size of a pound coin should be plenty to do a bonnet i.e spread it thin.

I doubt that the swirls you're seeing are the wax, most likely washing swirls.

Hey Fish - don't think I described that very well! It's not the paint swirls, but where I put wax on but haven't buffed it I think.

Sounds like you've just put too much on. I do exactly the same everytime and on a black car it looks

ok, maybe it's a wax that you need to go back to after an hour or two and re-buff off. Some take that hour or two to go-off so to speak.

Which wax did you use? Some have much longer cure times and some can haze. I suspect washing the car, drying it and then buffing the wax with a QD may be sufficient. Alternatively you could add another layer since the solvents will help with the wax already there. Finally, as above, strip back and start again.

The wax needs to be very, very thin and left adequate time to cure.
