One months ownership and first major issue :-\
« on: June 03, 2013, 09:46:49 pm »
On my way home from work today my gti seems to have developed a fault. It's now not firing on all cylinders and when scanned showed the error message ' 00768 Rear Heater Core Temp Sensor (G154)'  any ideas? Looking on Google it would seem to be coil pack problem but one guy had this and it was a melted piston! Its under warranty but would it be safe to drive back the 20 miles to the garage i got it from?

What did you use to scan it? That's not a regular vcds fault code, they usually start with "p"

You need to scan with vcds, that code prob doesn't even point to the issue. Where are you in the uk?

It's still under warranty and the dealer has said if I take it to them they'll sort it out but I'm a bit concerned about driving it the 20 miles in its current state...

Well ive had a bit of a look myself before taking it back to the dealer and swapped coils 1 and 4 but no change. I unplugged the maf and the engine note didnt alter at all. Could this be the problem? Would a knackered maf make the engine feel like it was running on 3 cylinders? So i put it all back together and thought ill try it once more and hey presto it ran much better??? Took it out for a run and it felt alot better but had very poor mpg - 16.5 to be exact. Any ideas???

Ask somebody to transport the vehicle to the dealer if you dont feel like driving there. Would def. be my choice..

All seems ok now - may have just been a loose connection afterall. The dealer gave me a brand new coil pack under warranty to keep just incase of any future issues. Good service once again from V-Hub Tewkesbury  :happy2:
