Best way to improve sound
« on: June 15, 2013, 10:39:37 pm »
My 07 GTI has the VW Soundpack installed and have just retrofitted a RNS510 headunit but i am still disappointed with the overall sound quality.

I rode in a Mk6 the other day and the volume/quality of the Dyn Audio system was great.

I want to keep the car as standard as possible so wondering if swapping out the OEM speakers would make much of a difference?

Any other suggestions welcome.

Thanks

Changing The current speakers will make an obvious difference. I have always found the thing that makes the biggest difference to car audio is a subwoofer. It depends what sort of thing you are after.

If you just want to improve the stock system, 3 way components up front, 2 way components in the rear. Small 4 channel amp under the passenger seat, where your current amp is, driving front and rear. Sorted. Improves the stock system no end and gives you a welcome bass boost without having to resort to a sub woofer.

Have you coded the head unit with VCDS?

Recently replaced the factory fitted RCD300 with a RCD510 (pretty much the same as the RNS510) and was not satisfied with the sound quality mainly the amount of distortion, a little searching brought up http://www.my-gti.com/1411/volkswagen-rns-510-coding-when-installing-with-a-factory-amplifier
