Seized / Over tightening wheel bolts

Changing my rear pads out, only managed to do the one side, as the nearside wheel bolts are so tight they weren't budging with the breaker bar  Addmittedly I didn't give it everything in fear of snapping a bolt.

So what next>?  I've tried some heat / penetrating oil over night / tightening slightly (although they are so tight, they weren't tightening) then un tightening / shocking them off with a hammer.

Could get expensive... so if the garage can't do them, is it a case of snapping them and replacing the hub?  Any suggestions?

just go for it , i doubt they will snap , 1/2" snap on impact gun or air impact gun might get them

I really could do with an impact gun, perhaps it's just the excuse to buy one - what's the score if they do snap?

You will need to get them drilled out, which you will have to take somewhere to do unless you have the tools. Your standard household cordless drill won't suffice 

Don't believe that they won't snap. I've seen someone snap 2 wheel bolts from them being seized on/over tightened. May well have been crap bolts but they still snapped. Luckily the snapped to the point that he could still remove the wheel to drill them out.

Have you tried the freeze spray stuff you can get? I've seen that used by the lads in work and it's really effective.

Scaffold bar over the breaker bar.  Always works for me.  No amount of spray will ever get in there to free it up as its a radius/taper seat.  No snapped bolts so far.  Its a nice big M14.

Try a manual impact driver  , not expensive and you don't need a compressor to run it ! Good luck

Cheers everyone, threw caution to the wind and went pyscho on it with the breaker, they came off with an almighty crack... did the pads then copper greased the bolts and tightened with spider... phewee.

sometimes a bit of brute force and ignorance is the way to go

Thats lucky then 

I had to have mine drilled out a few months ago. The previous owner had done them up so tight that even a breaker bar with an extension wouldn't shift them. Luckily the garage i took it too didn't damage the alloys or hub, was still a shocking expense though!
