Hi, newbie from Portsmouth.
« on: September 02, 2009, 08:38:26 pm »
Hey all,
just bought an 05 GTI for my wife from Kris of this forum.
Car is a quality drive and really enjoyed the drive back from Exeter after doing a deal in the Exeter sevices car park.
Was a pleasure to meet Kris and was an easy deal to do.
A couple of months ago I was looking for a new Ed 30 or a Pirelli for myself but could not find the right one ( I posted on here at the time ). I had a Focus RS on order so picked that up a couple of weeks ago so it was nice to get a well looked after GTI with some extras and get back onto the forum.
Already got a couple of things ordered, footrest and seat inserts, hopefully be here tomorrow and looking at colour coding the rest of the car as well. Just got to persuade my wife that that is what she needs.

Cheers.

Paddy

Already got one! one less thing to convince her about. Remap, lowered, R32 brakes and ED30 alloys. Really nice set up.

Thanks for the welcomes.
The RS is a brilliant car, smooth delivery, shed loads of torque and power, seats are lovely, the sound of it is something else,  it gets a lot of attention no matter where you are and it is out on the road at every opportunity. It corners really well and gives lots of confidence. Fully loaded so plenty of toys to keep you entertained. Absolutely love it.
The GTI really surprised me when I drove it home. Seats are really good, plenty of torque, sits really nice due to being lowered and again is lovely to drive. The exhaust as standard gives a really nice note when pushing on ( loved it actually ) but is quiet with normal driving which my Wife likes so I don't hold out much hope of a new system there.
The drive home with the GTI was in the wet so didn't get a chance to really drive properly but was wheel spinning in 1st, 2nd and 3rd so plenty of power for dry use.
The only dissapointing thing about the RS that I have found is there is a fair amount of torque steer, more so than the STs that I had that were modded to 280ish BHP. After reading and seeing all the reports I expected it to be vitually non existent but it is there.
All in all I will be more than happy to drive the GTI but first choice would be the RS . My Wife on the other hand hasn't really taken to the RS, like she did the STs and Scoobys I had, so she is over the moon with the GTI and would be her first choice to drive.
When they are both clean and the weather is decent I will try and push my computing skills to the limit and take some photos and get them posted.
