12V Power Supply Giving Continuous Power?!
« on: December 30, 2013, 05:22:27 pm »
Hi everyone,

I just installed a sub and amp into my car, and had read that as there is no place for the remote wire on the back of the RNS-510, the next best place for it is to tag it onto the 12v supply in the boot.

I attached it on and plugged it into the amp, straight away the amp's power light comes on. The keys are out the ignition. Why is it doing this?

Any help would be really appreciated!

Thanks

The 12v in the boot is a permanent live without the keys in ignition bud. Stops someone nicking your car while your behind it using the 12v plugged in item.

There are two wires going into the 12 at the rear, I think you attached it to the wrong wire- attach it to the other one

I have read multiple times on this forum, and others, that it is 100% a switched live, it doesn't make any sense  :sad1:

I believe the other wire is just a ground, so is useless for this.

Thanks, I knew of this already but the 12v supply in the boot seemed easier, but  I may have to go for that option now  :scared:

When I wired mine up back in April i use the back 12v socket I wired it on the ( I think it was solid red) wire and the amp was on all the time so I switched it to the other wire which was ( I think ) red and brown and it works as expected

Hmm, well I'll switch it to the wire that is all one colour to see if that works, but I don't have much hope. If no luck with that I'll just have to go for the fuse box option I guess.
