Carbon build up
« on: October 14, 2014, 08:45:21 pm »
Have heard a lot about people using seafoam to clean up all their valves injectors etc. from carbon build up, a known downside to the tfsi engine. I was considering giving the treatment a try was wondering if it's worthwhile though as my car is a 57 plate that has only covered 48k miles.

I understand there's not a lot or any gains in performance I was contemplating whether to try it or not as it looks like quite a simple diy job

I've  read mixed results with seafoam. Tbh the best way to clean the valves is remove the inlet mani and scrape it all off.

Once you've done that once, a yearly treatment with various spirits through a sprayer into the inlet mani will help keep it clean

If I was you I'd do as Gray has already said.. Basically, if your going to do it, do it once and do it properly..

Invest some time into it, give it a thorough deep clean then once it's done, have a beer and no doubt you've learnt something new when taking it all apart if your not already mechanically minded and you've managed to do it on your own which is an achievement to yourself  :happy2:

Im going to be doing it myself in the next couple of weeks maybe if time allows me to if not then, in 5 months time when I have time off. And I'm no mechanic
