PRNDS on Hud Flashing
« on: November 18, 2014, 04:07:26 pm »
I'm a new poster here so hoping that you guys might be able to help me.

I bought a 2008 Mk5 Golf at the start of August. It is a 1.4 Match Automatic, only had 32,000 miles when I purchased it. I am based in London so generally only drive it on the weekends and tends to be for longer drives as we are away fairly regularly.

About since a month after purchase we have begun to have an issue with the car in that we'll be driving along and the car revs will increase suddenly and then fall back off immediately at which point the PRNDS display on the HUD begins to flash. The car still has some power but it begins to fade. After pulling over and giving it 5 minutes the car generally comes back to life and we can drive it normally. I bought it from a dealer and as such I have a warranty on the car till February.

The issue is intermittent in that is doesn't happen on every drive we do, in fact we can go weeks without it happening and then it happens again without any warning. There doesn't seem to be anything common between when it does and doesn't happen.

The car has been back to the dealer once before to fix but they couldn't find anything wrong. It's going back again, but am thinking if it doesn't happen whilst it is with them they will say the same thing.

I'm guessing my best bet would be to find someone with a VAG COM to do some readings on the car so I can check what is going on and pass the information on to the dealer? This is my first car so want to make sure this gets fixed! Any help or advice would be welcomed.

Video of the issue is here:

Definitely sounds similar. Is there a definitive way I could prove that is the issue?

Sounds good, although I'd guess you aren't there till to late? I work over in east (Shoreditch) so wouldn't be home until 18:30 at the earliest at which point it'd take me a little while to get to Hounslow.
