Service history advice
« on: November 17, 2009, 06:23:13 pm »
Hi folks, first post on here.

Basically a family friend is selling his 07 GTi with just under 20k miles on it, and i am hoping to buy it.

He bought it new and had it serviced after the first year with 8.5k miles. However, he says the service indicator came on a month or so ago for the second time at just over 19k.

Does this sound fair enough? I was under the impression the car would request a service after a year, if 10k miles werent covered since the last service? This is obviously well over a year since the first service.

Any help appreciated.

It will probably be on long life service interval, the car basically tells you when its needed, it could come up after 5000 miles if its been driven hard. I would say its a good indication that the car has been driven properly to be honest.
I would however get it changed to T&D interval as it is better for Turbo cars and cheaper in most cases.  :happy2:

Thanks for the replies.

How does T&D differ? What do both sorts of service cost?

Reassuring to know about how its been driven. To be honest he came from a mk3 1.4CL and wouldnt be big in to cars, so i didnt have him down as a racer!

T&D is time and date, basically its a yearly service or 10,000 miles which ever comes first.

The one your car is probably on is longlife service interval, which basically gets done when the car needs it. Most people think just because of the name that its cheaper as you will be servicing less often, but in reality it pops up with most around 8000- 10000 usually
