The 1st option isn't bad, just older.

The 2nd option has better hardware so it should be much faster. I think @dazza bought one recently so he should be able to tell a more correct opinion.

I have a P version and before I had B version. The newer is better, but I was hoping for a bigger increase in it's speed.

@dazza: Yours seems faster than mine. Is it as fast during a cold start? Mine sometimes takes its time to change from the initial screen to another, like if it was in Radio it starts playing Radio when it turns on fast enough but if I want to go to Navigation right away it takes time loading the new screen. It's faster than the B version but not as fast as your R version looked like in the video.

It seems to boot fast enough. The SSD will make it boot faster.
Whats a cold start does it have to be off for x amount of time?

Yeah, I'm not sure how much, maybe more than 30 minutes, which is the time I think the CAN keeps itself and some electric parts on.

Anyone know the difference between the "R" and the "S" model? Does the "S" still contain an SSD?

Also, would you go for an older RNS510 around £350 and a genuine bluetooth kit at £150 or get the RNS510 version R around £500 now and wait a while to get the bluetooth kit? Is the speed increase worth £150 is what I'm saying...?

Sorry to hijack the thread but can someone tell me the differences between the rns10's out there? Do they need a seperate Bluetooth module to work or are they all built into it? I want it to make/receive calls, sat nav and radio is this possible?

Bluetooth module is separate.
In the case of versions, the usual advice is to buy the latest model within your budget.

Improvements are usually to speed, faster processor, improved fan, greater support for memory cards, GPS functionality, increased HDD space etc.
Later models have led screens and solid hard drives as mentioned.

Some good info here:
