What grit sandpaper is required to sand down the caliper before paint? I've heard good feedback from Hammerite as well.

I've used hammerite a few times. I would recommend the spray on over the brush on stuff. You want to use as low grit as. You can get so the paint adheres better, anything above 1500 I've found is pretty pointless.

I wire brushed mine and then used hammerite smooth and brushed it on. When doing them on the car i think brushing is better. If your removing them and taping up the bits you don't want paint on etc then obviously spraying will be a much better finish. Also painted the hubs and the stone guards black.

Have used Hammerite myself in the past with no trouble, but have always brushed on rather than spraying.

This is the guide I used the 1st time around: http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=77966.0

Recently used red Foliac, brush on.
Brembo calipers, off the car. Took ages to pre, sand with fine wet n dry, degrease etc...
Was working in a warm work shop.
Took loads of coats, and didnt cover well. Really time consuming.
A real pia!

Not pleased with the results.
It was expensive too!
NOT recommended.

I should say as well. I originally did mine when I bought the car about 4 years ago now. Nothing had flaked off. They were just looking a bit dull again so I gave them a quick brush and another coat.
