Smoke when thrashing it.

Hi Guys.

Was out in the wifes car last night just to get some fuel, She dosnt drive the car hard at all never taking it anywhere near the red line and drives mainly on A roads backwards and forwards to work so cant really get up to any speed but I tend to clear it out every time I drive it. I noticed it chucked out at load of grey smoke when nailing it in 1st,2nd,3rd when joining a dual carriage way, I did give it full throttle a few times after and couldnt see any smoke. Its probably been a couple of weeks since I last drove it but wondering if this is normal for the gti's ?

Ive checked for boost leaks on a smoke machine seemed ok, we normally put shell fuel in it.

Any Idea's on anything I can check if not right.

Just sounds like you burnt off some condensation if it didn't do it again.

Losing any oil? Mpg dropped lately? Normal driving under full boost?

With the engine running pull the dipstick out for a few seconds, if the engine splutters a bit then your all good but if it doesn't make a difference you PVC valve might be failing.

Like I said though, I think it was just condensation

Used to let mine get up to temp, then floor it in 2nd to 5000, cleared the crap out. After the R-tech map i can't just floor it in second, so my 'clearing runs' are now limited to getting on the motorway.

But yes they done need a boot, to help clear them out every so often.

It does use a bit of oil, Will try the dipstick tonight m8.

Grey smoke is most likely oil rather than condensation which would be a lighter/whiter colour smoke. I agree with what cooljimy84 says and wouldn't be overly concerned with it.

Grey smoke could also be black smoke that is dissipating, easy mistake in the rear view mirror.  Quite common the first few times you boot a car, especially if it's been trundling about all week. I wouldn't worry
