Thinking of buying a 1.6 Diesel Touran - advice please?
« on: June 01, 2015, 03:47:41 pm »
Afternoon all,

So, after mini-Dave III arrived 11 weeks ago, the wife's CMAX is no longer big enough for us. We can carry the family (just about) but not enough room to actually carry anything with us. Considering chopping it in for a Touran - wife's first Dub  :driver:

I know a few on here have had Tourans, or the same engine in other VAG's. A lot seem to be around a similar mileage, which makes me wonder if there is some big work required around 70k? Below is one of the candidates - any thoughts on what to look out for?

Thanks,
Dave

Works with the 1.6 cr for years. They common for EGR coolers faulting. See if they've been replaced. Also starting to see water pumps fail around 10 plate cars. Something to bear in mind.

Hmmm...some pretty strong views here already - thats what i like to see! Possibly file this one under the category of "avoid".

Ok, so, lets look at this another way. I'm looking to buy my wife a Touran. Which engine should i go for? (if any!)  :happy2:

Thanks,
Dave

Agree about the 1.6. I don't like them. The 2.0 cr 140 is good. I had one in mine late Passat b6. 4motion had it 2 years. No Probs Had no problems pulling caravan either. The early cr 140 had the old style EGR cooler so they were ok. Newer ones have the same problematic EGR coolers. Something to check in history.

There are a few issues associated with the 1.6 CR. The EGR was already mentioned, many have had to replace the injectors and some have had clutch problems too. Other than that the AC compressor can have problems, just like in any other VAG car. Avoid the 7-speed DSG.

I'd look for a 2.0 CR 140 or CR 170.

Thanks for the replies guys. Still considering options - having a pretty expensive time at the moment!
