R32 rear bumper conversion

Hello all
Im considering changing my rear bumper to give it the R32 rear looks with centre dual centre exhaust exits etc
My car is completely standard as thats how I roll these days but do really like the R32 rear etc

What's involved with converting it? What parts are required and what exhauast sytem would be required? Is there a specially designed system on the market for such a conversion?

Any advice/links to parts and websites much appreciated as always chaps

It's the only thing that makes me consider a R32 is that rear end but prefer the front end of Gti along with the gti Mpg and road tax bracket  :laugh:

In a similar boat to you mate - I'm only stage 1 at the minute but I just know I'll go stage 2/2+ at some point, and that'll involve a turbo-back. I too love the look of the R32 rear.

From what I gather, both BCS and Milltek produce R32 'style' systems for the TFSI.

As for the rear, I think you only need the lower R32 section - that's all that differs between lower-spec/derv/GTI/R32; the top half of the bumper is the same across the range. I think as well as this you may need to swap a heatshield.

I know that's not much info, and I'm sure you're aware of the majority of that already.. but it will help me to keep an eye on your progress!

I might be wrong but I think @th3_f15t did the R32 thing on his GTI, so may well be able to offer some more detailed info.

Even considered a R32 just for that rear end but then a don't like the front end on them as reminds me of a passat  :sick: plus £500 road tax, no turbo and 20mpg isn't too appealing either!
Only other option would be to upgrade to s mk6 R but thats a costly upgrade  :surprised: :laugh:

Yeah there's something a bit niche about a mk5 R32, they do seem to have a special road presence.

But apart from the sound, they stack up badly against the GTI when you consider running costs. Unless of course you (with money to burn) buy one with a turbo conversion in mind... then the 'stage 1 GTI is quicker/better than R32' argument is well and truly void!

Can't beat the GTI really, it's lighter, and goes better with a map. Mine is so torquey now (thanks to R-Tech), and being a k03 it's there as soon as you put your foot down. Glad VAG ditched the 6 cylinder with the mk6 and carried on with the k04. I think if I don't take my GTI further (yeah right..) it's good to know there's the mk6 R and S3 available to handle proper power, if that's still my thing a few years down the line.

Oh, and seriously, get it down to R-Tech. I do understand your 'keep it stock' thinking, but out of all the maps I've had over the years this one has truly transformed the car. Do it

Converted mine, not a big deal. 

Get a geniune lower section plus diffuser or a one piece copy and a R32 style cat back (unless like me you have a full BCS TBE then all you will need is R32 conversion assembly. All info on mine in build thread, post 238.

Is it recomended to deffinately fit the R32 foam and the little support brackets then?

Also il be converting my own Gti bumper adding the aftermarket skirt etc

I've noticed many companies selling the lower skirt on ebay but which ones are ok and which ones are dodgy fitment etc?
Anyone got an oppinion on them or experience with the aftermarket lower skirts?

And yes the R32 idea is a no goer as too many thi gs against it in comparison to the Gti
Have been toying with stage 1 Rtech map for a while (we shall see)

R32 foam is not required. The support/brackets add a little more stability and also help stop crap getting in behind the bumper plus they are only a few quid for the dealers.

You buy a copy and you take a chance, some are ok and some are shocking, too big by a few cm or too small. Some copies don't have a heat sheild and some don't have tow eyes. A few peeps on here have used 1 particular company and they seem happy, I'll have a search for you.

There's been mixed reviews for PPCGB R32 rear valances. Some fit great, others need modification. I guess it's down to pot luck.
