Are the mid-bass attached to the plastic mounting spacer, or could they be replaced with plywood baffles?

You need the spacer. It's a much deeper woofer, would foul on the window regulator mech if not attached to spacer.

I understand, but is the plastic spacer fully bonded to the speaker basket? Or could you easily remove it and make something out of wood instead?

They are separate pieces. You attach the spacer to the door and then the speaker to the spacer.

Use the Connects2 speaker surrounds. Although they fit sh*te and you'll need to trim it down.

My Rainbow speakers are 165mm, 100mm and 26mm. Do you think these would fit ok?

What I intend to do is change the fronts, keep the rears OEM, and add an amp, all connected to my RNS 510. I don't know if anyone can recommend an installer/company in the south east who can help me with this??
