Front shock removal screw up - Help!
« on: November 06, 2015, 09:12:58 pm »
Helping my mate to replace a sheared spring on his coilovers.

Top mount has been released and Droplink and hub knuckle bolt have been removed.

Trouble now is that we cant get the strut out of the hub and everythings hanging down.. No luck with knuckle spreader either.

Tried to rebolt on the top mount but it wont go back no matter how hard I push the top of the strut inwards to where it bolts in.

Any pointers much appreciated!

Should of left top mount till last really but lots and lots of wd40! Don't understand why you can't rebolt the top mount?

Try using the weight of the car to seat the top mount , put the wheel back on and lower the jack slowly while guiding the strut into the seating or for more room to see drop the disk edge on a wooden block
Just don't get your hands trapped

Thanks for the help guys.

I used a 1/4 to 3/8" piece to spread the strut and hammered like hell from underneath and the strut came out.

Tried to use ratchet straps and a jack to position the strut but whole vehicle lifted up.. Looked closely and Id overextended the gearbox side CV joint of the driveshaft. I was like sh*****t!

After getting out the strut I jacked up the hub till driveshaft was level, then rotated the disc till the joint popped in slightly then pushed it home.

Lessons learned now.  :happy2:
