Xenon issue - Cutting out.
« on: November 17, 2015, 09:22:06 pm »
Hi All,

I hope you're well,

I am having a slight issue with my Xenons at the moment.

I will explain the situation the best I can I have also put a video link so you can see whats happening.

Basically, whenever I pull my washer stalk to spray the windscreen the xenons cut out and immediately come back on. This has further developed and sometimes when the wipers are on Auto setting and they sweep the can cut out, and other times for no apparent reason. This isn't every swipe of the wipers, usually once and then it won't happen again for the rest of the journey.

Could this be the headlight relay deteriorated, or something more serious. I have ruled out the Xenon units, ballasts etc as they both do it at exactly the same time.

Video is here -

Specs of the car if it helps below:

2006 GTi - 76,000 miles.
Soundpack with Amp and 10 speaker package.
Xenons
Auto Light/Wipers
Heated Seats
Highline Display
MFSW
Retrofitted RCD510 (Non Sat Nav or DAB)

I don't know if any of the above will be relevant but thought its best to put up incase.

Don't suppose you have a wiring diagram, or location of the relay?

Hi @BigA91 ,

After looking at relay diagrams I am unaware of which relay would be causing this

The issue you are having, I believe is referred to as 'flickering'.

Take a look at this post as someone explains his lights flickering which are the rectified by changing his bulbs to some eBay ones.

I had ruled bulbs out as its both at the same time, hence the reason i think its the feed to the Xenons, not relating to the Ballasts/Igniters/Units themsleves

Had flickering with the TT mk1 xenons but they don't both go together and definitely don't do it when wipers are switched on on lights are flashed.
It won't be the bulbs IMO.
