Since the last update I've serviced the car; filling her up with some fresh Castrol Edge. :drinking:  I'm still yet to change the fuel filter but it seems vw think it shouldn't be a serviceable part! I'll be doing it anyway!

I also got a can of cheap spray paint and went over the wheel nut covers to tidy them up. Looks much better!

One weekend I noticed a Buldge in one of the front tyres.  Ordered two eagle asymmetric 3's and had them changed

The tyre shop insisted it needed an alignment while I was there so had it done.

Other than that I've just been sorting out some of the smaller issues.

Restored my headlights :

I used the Autoglym kit and am happy with the results. It was my first attempt and by no means a perfect job but they're better.

Next I wrapped the fogs. I'm not sure I like it really. Only did it as one has a big hole in it so the vinyl will keep the water out!

Grills were all removed, cleaned and coated with Autoglym bumper and trim gel

Very easy to remove the fog light units but I lost all patience with the wrap in the end and they're full of air bubbles and creases!  :ashamed:

And finally, I ordered a 'magic eraser' and had a go at my very shiny steering wheel. I didn't do a before shot but it came up much more matte/ new looking!

I did however coat it with Autoglym leather conditioner which restored some shine.  :sad1:

If anyone is going to try this all I would say is be very gentle! I barley dragged the eraser/ sponge over the steering wheel (I didn't use any force). It seems a very abrasive product!

Also had a go at the gear knob.

Before:

After:

I've also taken off the magnetic front plate and put the plinth and my pressed plate on.

Oh, and I got this for a laugh

Nice balance of maintenance and subtle personal mods. Looks great.

Chris
It wouldn't be fun if it was easy, I just wish it wasn't this much fun.

Nice work there buddy.

I have to ask, where you from?  I recognize a lot of the back ground in some of your pics. I think we live in the same town that recently became a city.

We do!  I was looking through your thread the other day and thought it was Hylands house behind the cars in your pics?

Can't say I've seen you about on the road yet! I'm only a few miles away from town (city)!

I'm that side of the town so now doubt we'll eye ball each other soon. Or theres always the possibility of a meet if you fancy?  Line them up for a couple of pics. :happy2:

On another note, what option did you go with for the boot catch? Mines in need of replacement and I dont know to go with the mk6 or restore the current back plate and attach the mk4 badge.

I am too, between Writtle and Ongar.  :happy2: Surprised we haven't crossed paths! I'm often in convoy with a laser blue 3 door around town  :happy2: Im sure we'd be up for a meet. I went for a 3d badge from a newer mk5. It's a straight swap but does stick out a little. If i and the choice now, i'd go for a mk6. Not sure if its as simple to fit, but it seems a popular mod so can't be too difficult

10/10/16

Yesterday the golf hit 120,000!

So as I had the afternoon at home today I thought she could have a birthday present.

Started with a normal wash:

Snowfoam
Rinse
Wheels cleaned and rinsed
2 bucket method wash
Rinse
Sprayed everything below the Windows with ironx
rinse
Clay bar
Wash/rinse
Polish
Wax!

Some funky reflections:

Took a while but well worth it, good to know it's protected for winter!

And last weekend I got the footrest plate on. Fairly easy install, smarted up the footwell imo

Excellent work buddy.

Loving the reflection shots, car looks great.

I got myself a magic spring after seeing your results and i have to say the results are amazing. I now have a nice matt finish on the steering wheel. Will make it part of the cleaning ritual.  Although though I have to say I was horrified and embarrassed at how mch dirt was left on the spong  :ashamed:

Thanks mate! Its a shame they always look better in the pictures!  :ashamed:

I'm going to have another go on the steering wheel with mine. Once I treated it with conditioner it got it's shine straight back  :sad1: Just have to be careful I don't damage the leather!

Very nice! I'm actually quite liking the fogs! Love the Grey!
Your car is looking very clean - I need to sort mine with a nice polish and wax soon!
