Headunit won't fit fully.. Am I missing something here?
« on: December 01, 2015, 03:44:18 pm »
Right now I'm not new to fiddling with electronics and simple things on my car but this is the first time changing a double din Headunit. So I bought a pioneer sph da120 from halfords over the weekend and Iv removed the oem unit and put all the cables and stuff into the Headunit. But the damn thing is too small for the cut out! It's fully working but am I missing something? It just won't sit right or inside properly. Also what's the best way to bypass the parking break wire in this unit? And a good and easy place to put the mic and GPS receiver.

The last few questioned aren't as important but I want to know what I'm missing! Getting frustrated with it now lol

Cheers in advance!

I installed my SPH-DA120 this week - only took about half an hour (although I still need to tidy up the microphone cabling). Sound quality is a huge improvement over the standard RCD300, even using standard speakers. The display is very good too. I wanted to stream music and answer calls via Bluetooth, then use Carplay for satnav/audio duties on longer journeys. So far I'm very impressed - seems a no brainer for iPhone users (assuming you won't miss using CD's). I paid £280 for the HU from Amazon, then £60 for a CTKVW01 VW fitting kit from Dynamic Sounds.

Have you got the VW fitting kit?

Keeping it original..............or not!!

Cheers for the reply guys! Turns out it was just me being silly and I didn't get the fitting kit (fascia) - as with the parking brake, what's the easiest place to ground it to? Is there anything near the head unit where I can ground it?
