oil level sensor
«

Checked my oil level the other day and it was just on the tip of the dipstick. Surely the oil level sensor should of poped up on the dash. Do you reckon it could be a faulty sensor or was the oil not low enough yet
Anyway put a litre of oil in and its up to max now.

Many cars on the market don't show low oil until it's literally gone or your engine has blown up as I've personally found on many cars I've serviced with barely a litre in the sump pan.
I'd keep a regular weekly check on it as VAG cars do like to drink a litre every 900miles or so.
If you have vagcom I'm sure you can check to see if the sensor is working?. someone else will know better on this one.
ps I'm not saying it shouldn't work as it should in all honesty but I believe it's when the oil is bare minimum!.

When that sensor fails there is a dashboard warning. Trust me, I've spent the last 5 months with it on on my car! Finally have it sorted, £80 for the new sensor! This is the one in the bottom of the sump

Usually the yellow warning light illuminates on the dash when the sensor has failed.

So the mfd message tells you of the low engine oil?.

Cool. Just seems mental that it didn't show on mfd and oil was barely on dipstick. Better start checking the oil more regualy.

No, I think the MFD said 'oil level sensor workshop' or similar

Oh I see, that was because the switch had failed.
