I think you need to adapt your driving style mate. Don't think of it as an auto, it's a robotised manual.
A lot of the things your experiencing are because the gearbox might not be sure of what you're about to do. Therefore it makes weird changes. Have a read of this:

Thanks Nas, I'll give it a shot as sometimes I get good power whilst in auto and other times its slacking so sounds like both mine and the dsg's fault
