225/45/18 Rear and 225/40/18 Front
« on: December 08, 2015, 04:08:47 pm »
Hi,

I just had my tyres changed. I noticed the previous owner (unintentionally) fitted the wrong size tyres on one axle (size 225/45/18).

The problem is that the wrong sized tyres are brand new!

Is it okay to drive with the 45 profile on the rear and 40 profile on the front for a couple of months? Unless it's a safety issue, I can't justify binning new tyres.

No reason why the profiles would need to be the same so carry on driving!!  :driver: :driver:

Keeping it original..............or not!!

It'll be fine as longs as each axle has the same tyres on both sides of the same axle.

... unless you're running an R32 or something else with 4 wheel drive, in which case you'd suffer serious damage to the system!

Okay thanks fellas.

Could this be the reason that my steering angle sensor light, ESP and TPMS light are coming on and going off?

I.e., the wheels on the two axles rotate at different speeds, confusing the system?

Yes possibly.
Although I ran 215/40 and 225/45 and had no such problems.

Hmm, food for thought. The previous owner did mention that the light only came on when he switched from winter tyres to these (wrong sized) tyres. Even did a 4 wheel alignment to try and correct it.

Cheers mate.

Yes this is true for 4 wheel drive/ 4motion's ...it will cause problems with the Heldex

Yep I can imagine. I have a GTI, though.
