Intermittent starting problem
« on: December 12, 2015, 04:31:20 pm »
I have a BWA gti with dsg. K03 and revo stage 2. I have experienced now twice a starting problem. I turn the key and engine turns happily but it doesnt even try to start. Nothing,it just spins the engine happily. When I let go off the key and try to start again, it fires right up. I had no fault codes and Im not getting any misfires on any cylinders. Any ideas what this could be? Happened twice in a few weeks time. Kind of a feels like a fuelling issue, since it doesnt even try to start any cylinders. Otherwise engine is working fine.

Well almost.. Yours did try to start, mine doesnt even try. However mine spins a lot faster so you might want to check your battery. I had similar issue as you now, and it went away with new battery.

The last one I fixed like that had a defective PCV and air leak on the intake - it was a standard intake with a tiny crack - have it scanned with VCDS and see if there's any fault codes.

Your could be the ignition switch failing, if you have it scanned it would show as and electrical fault and a stored DTC to match.

I scanned only the engine module for faults, I need to scan the rest also. Thanks for this tip, I think this is a good possibility.

Thanks for pointing that out. I will have a look at the air intake

I scanned the rest of the modules, but no more fault codes for this. Crap. I guess I will just keep driving until it fails to start completely.
