Oil leak
« on: December 20, 2015, 05:10:35 pm »
I've noticed a few drops of oil on the driveway tonight.

I've had a look in the engine bay and can see oil on the undertray (cambelt side) close to where the boost pipe runs.

Any ideas folks?

Rocker cover as ive got a lovely leak all over the top of the gear box?.

I had a leak from the back of the rocker cover after doing the cam chain.

Replaced the gasket again and i was still leaking. In the end replacing the rocker cover bots sorted the problem. As rubber part of the bolts were fooked and resulted in a leak when hot.

That's a bugger!!! so replace the bolts and cam gasket, or there's a possibilty for a further leak.

Id take a chance and just do the gasket inspect the bolts and switch out any that look dodgy.

When I bought my car in June it had oil on the undertray near the boost pipe.  Seller took it to VW who said boost pipe had come loose / clamp had come off, causing oil to drip out of it.

Get some clean paper towel and gently press it along all of the edges of the rocker cover to see if there's any fresh oil somewhere, that should tell you where the oil is coming from. Also get under the car and check the pipes to the intercooler in the same manor to see if there's wet oil from the boost pipes.

I had an oil leak in the Golf R when I bought it, was told it was possible the transfer box but turned out to be a breather pipe at the back of the cylinder head, which connected to the rocker cover.

Hope you get this sorted mate, don't like the idea the old girl is causing you problems! :sad1:

Moving over to Flickr, sorry for the broken picture links!

Been mega reliable so far dude. All I've done is change the oil at 98'000 and it's on 102'000 now.
Going to change engine and Trans mount soon from TPS.
