Resonated or non?
« on: December 22, 2015, 11:48:19 pm »
Okay I've been doing some research into getting a milltek exhaust now. What are the thoughts on non res vs resonated?

I understand non res is louder but how loud is it? I don't want to be an anti social yobbo tbh

I had a non res milltek cat back before going full 3inch dp de cat on my tt mk1 and it sounded awesome on idle and burbles when you let your foot off the throttle not crazy loud either but you know he's coming down the road. not boy racerish or anti social yobbo style lol and It's not scooby loud either.  :signLOL:

You need to hear someone's non res and res before you decide though  :driver:

I have a non res on my Edition 30 and I felt it wasn't much louder than stock to be honest.  Then I got the pre cat removed and it's made the sound deeper but not over the top.

I am happy with the sound now. It doesn't turn heads like a boy racer car but certainly sounds better than the stock exhaust which was way too quiet in my eyes

I have a resonated one which I'm told sounds nice when you work the engine but not really noticeable under normal circumstances. DSG 'fart' is still audible (just) inside the car. Mind you I have Dynamat on the entire boot floor as well.

It sounds nice without being loud, it has a different sound to stock parts. It's also clearly different when the car starts from cold.

I got mine supplied to me for the same price as non resonated. If I were paying full price I would probably choose the cheaper non-resonated option.
My garage knew I was after an OE+ spec for my car and recommended this to me and I've not been disappointed. Aside from the noise difference they're both the same in their function - gas flow and heat management.

Gone but not forgotten :-)

You can always add the resonated section later on if its too loud.

I have a resonated one. Ended up buying a non res as its far to quiet for my liking and am really fussy on it being too loud. Non res is being fitted next week.

I've now got a non resonated BCS catback and I must say the noise the thing produces is incredible! It's maybe only a bit loud when starting Cold, once it's warmed up it has a nice deep tone throughout and no droning which is also good!

That being said I do have my resonator in the garage just in case it's a bit loud as I get up for work at 4.30 most days

None Res FTW

What people forget is the turbo charger is one massive silencer to a certain degree.. I have rarely fitted a resonated system to a Turbo`ed car because they tend to be no louder than stock.

I have a resonated, tbh not much diff from stock, which suits me, but if you want it a fair bit louder than stock you will need non res

Just thought I would add it depends on where you live.
I have a full milltek decat non res system and I live in a very quiet village, I am now known as the arsehole with the loud car :surprised:

Sorry hlcst but that's funny! :signLOL:

You can fit a resonator if you're bothered with that.
