Been away a long time!
« on: December 28, 2015, 06:07:24 pm »
Hi guys
What with weddings, babies ect I've been away from the Gti scene for a while now. Now in the position to own one again.
I've been offered a 2005 5 door model with FSH cam belt a pump done at 88k (now covered 115,000) its finished in tornado red with the 17" monzas, interlargos interior.
Well looked after in nice condition..... Offered it at £3,200. Good price or around the going rate?? :happy2:

I'd say that was a good price as long as it isn't half dead.  Welcome back :)

I'm in exactly the same boat, I toyed with the idea of leasing a new golf R but its just dead money IMO.

Im looking at spending 4-5k and have seen a few examples similar to the one you described for around 3700ish so that looks a good deal.

I dont think you can go wrong at that price, you'll always sell it and get your money back but not many buyers want a 100k plus mileage car

If the cam belts done and the chain/tensioner for the timing adjuster also if it's a dsg and has the oil service history I say it's a winner cause all the other repairs tend to be very competitively priced.

Ok. Test drove the car and apart from some small issues its fundamentally a good car.... Bodywork wise... Tiny rust spot on one of the wings, bit of rust round the bottom of the boot handle, mandatory white worm to the handle itself

A day of machine polishing and I think the red will look spot on again.

Merchanically it drove well, clutch felt good and pulled well in every gear, half way through the test drive the traction and tyre pressure sensor came on, I tried to push the ESP button and it was like it was just a false button! Dearler said he would get this sorted.

Needs one tyre replacing.  Good history with fully stamped book.
If dealer rings to say that the traction issue has been sorted I may offer £3k dead! I can use the other bits a pieces as a bartering tool

Thoughts guys????????

Be careful with ESP lights. Big issue on the mk5 platform. I'm not the right person to explain it, but have a good read up so you know what's what.

Thanks. I will tread with caution. When the ESP a tyre pressure monitor light came on I pressed the ESP button which didn't seam to move,    dealer said its been identified as wheel bearing a abs sensor.... Remains to be seen!

Probably will be the sensor or bearing
