Manual to dsg swap?
« on: January 12, 2016, 07:45:02 pm »
I'm thinking of when the time comes to replace the clutch in my Pirelli GTI to do a manual to DSG conversion...
Has anyone here done this and what parts are needed?

@omeydz done a manual to dsg conversion. It was quite hard and he ran into some issues. There's a whole thread on it. However it was a mk6 tdi

Is it really worth the effort? DSG is great, but so is the manual.

Can't imagine it'd go down to well at resale time either. I personally wouldn't buy a GTI that's been converted.

Hi All.

I did swap the manual for a brand new DSG.

In the end the problem was that the mechatronics was in gear when I fitted it for soem reason. This affected the adaptation process and learning and wrongly thought it was a mechatronics fault. When I put it all in neutral it worked a treat. Considering Im not a mechanic and just a hands on enthusiast shows its very doable... just need the balls to do it

Few thousand faultless miles done now and working faultlessly. Even had to escape the floods in Carlisle in December and it survived going in deep floodwater as I left my home. Proof that its a job well done.

In all honesty I wouldn't buy someone elses conversion as its very involved and lots could have gone wrong or not done properly but I took my time, researched, obtained the right tools, parts etc and with the workshop manuals ETKA, ELSAWIN and flow diagrams Iv done it properly. No offence to anyone else  :happy2:

Iv not looked back, loving every minute of the DSG and a great project and learning experience. Wouldn't do it again personally but I know I can do it and understand the components, assembly and workings of them

My last ed30 was DSG, and the gearbox was faultless.. So Ive probably been spoilt by it!
My plan was never to sell this car so resale value isn't a problem.

As for parts, what else would I need apart from the gearbox, flywheel, gear selector, pedal box, steering wheel, clocks..?

You can keep your current clocks, unless you don't have an highline version.

I cant say ive personally done a manual to dsg conversion but i've done plenty of slushbox to manual conversions.

I cant imagine it being toooooo difficult. If you can remove a gearbox then you can convert to dsg XD I do miss my dsg :(
