jim's tornado red mk5 gti.
« on: January 16, 2016, 01:34:22 am »
hi all!
I am jim from dublin,ireland.
i have been a member for a few months and in that time i have been searching for a clean gti which in Ireland is not an easy task .
My original plan was to find a gti with dsg and aircon/climate control these were the  things i wanted the most but the task of finding such a car here was difficult as irish spec gti's didnt come with climate control as standard and the only 2 cars i could find with both needed 1k euro of bodywork to bring them up to a standard i would be happy with.
so i started looking at manuals and lo and behold a car popped up that from the description might be the one.
Went to look at it and realised it had many more extras than the ad stated plus it was extremley clean no body work issues for starters plus a full vw service history which in ireland on a 10 year old car is rare.
So a deal was done and i picked it up this morning.
Its a 2006 gti 3dr manual in tornado red.
xenon headlights.
winter pack.
aircon.
hi-line clocks
cruise control
multi function steering wheel.
puddle lights
cruise control.
It is also fitted with an evoms intake,r32 rear lights,ed35 alloy wheels (reps) and its mapped to approx 245bhp.
absolutley delighted with it and cant wait to start putting my own stamp on it.
i only have one pic after picking it up but as soon as i can give it a good wash there wil be plenty more!!
thanks for looking

Nice spec. Always wondered what ed35 wheels would look like on a mk5 - I like it!

Cheers guys.
I found out this morning it also has electric folding wing mirrors.
Cant give the car a good wash as the weather is terrible at the minute.
Did manage to fit my first mod though .
Ordered a pair of seat handle inserts during the week and they turned up yesterday.
So got them fitted and they look very well.
The first of many mods I have a big list!!
Will stick a pic of the inserts later.

Clean gti's like this are becoming rarer and rarer in Ireland i'm afraid! Hard to find one with the right spec. Well wear Jim looking forward to seeing you put your own stamp on it  :happy2:

cheers mate.
going to start on the small stuff first things like the interior switches and door handles interior leds etc.
then some new tyres are needed as the tyres on it although only fitted in november are just rubbish so 4 new michelins will be going on as soon as funds allow.
plan on then polybushing the whole car and fitting h&r springs maybe even their cup kit .
big brakes up front next and then more power :signLOL:

Finally managed to get the car washed but still have the interior to do properly.
took a few pics  :happy2:

had a quick look underneath all seems nice and clean.
noticed the springs are yellow so maybe they are aftermarket?
are oem springs yellow?
doesnt seem lowered to me.

just  small update.
i failed the irish version of the MOT its called the NCT over here.
drivers side rear brake caliper had seized so i had a replacement fitted along with new pads and it passed no problem.
gave it a wash the other day and when leaving work it looked well in the carpark so i took a quick pic.
relocated the number plate to the correct position as i didnt like it where it was.
got new plates too.

Looks nice and clean.

I like the wheel style but they look to be poking out quite a lot for a mk5.

next up for the gti is a set of michelin ps4's
after that i am getting a h&r cup kit fitted and putting powerflex bushes including the anti lif kit on the whole car.
then either r32 front brakes or brembo 18z 6 pot calipers.
once it handles and stops better and can put the power it currently on the road i will start performance mods.
no point having 280bhp+ if you cant use it.
