Engine mount removal help

Hi guys,

Just purchased my first VW yesterday and got out early this morning (in the snow and sleet) to change the timing belt as it's well overdue (on time) in my 06 gti. All was well until I had to remove the drivers side engine mount bracket (engine to mount) and I can't get the damn thing out.

I've read guides saying you need to raise/ lower the engine and I did so but still could never get it too budge.

Any help?

If it's loose then I don't see the problem of it coming out but there is a specific way as I had this issue with my mk1 tt and it was a pita to do both times in five years.

I just can't seem to get enough room to swing it out in any direction. The gap between the engine and the bodywork is so tight. I tried lowering the engine as much as I could and raising it too.

Fo our cars have a tentioner damper??? that was the problem with my tt and came out after removing the damper. long alloy thing with a pin looking thing at the top?

It will come out even if you have the one piece belt cover like i did. I replaced with a two piece cover to make it easier next time.

iirc left hand side of the mount comes out first.

I suspect you have not raised it enough. Also i repositioned the jack at one point as the engine was moving back too much.

Much more space to work in than the tt that's for sure.

The mount it very tight if you have a one piece cover hence they changed it to a two piece.

Mine has a smaller top piece and a larger bottom piece. Both a pain to remove, is that the easier two piece kit? I'm quite tempted to take it to my local stealer and throw some cash at them to do it and warrant the work. I still have to strip the engine and all mods from my previous car to sell.

The one piece has a window like this.



The two piece has no window and splits just below the tensioner.

Haven't tried yet. I put the car all back together yesterday as I needed it for work.

Damn!!! don't you just hate when things don't go to plan?

I would do mine but need extra cash and a place to do it in lol
Did my tt kit in November 2014 at work on a Saturday 1pm till 530pm so I locked the gate and manager was fine about it. New managers a baskeet and doesn't allow anyone to work on our own cars

Do you have a two piece cover?

There dreaded tt mounting bracket.
The damper has to be removed to get the bracket out and that's another pain to do.
