Rotating New Tyres Advice?
« on: January 19, 2016, 09:21:15 am »
So I just picked up 4 x goodyear eagle F1 Assymetric 3's to replace my current 3 x P-Zero and 1 x Kumho (Due to flat tyre).

The Kumho is on the rear but there's plenty of thread left on it. Note - both rear tyres have equal thread.

I want rid of the Pirelli and Kumho on the rear so can I literally just take off the rear left wheel and swap for front level and rear right for front right?

I had 4 wheel laser hawkeye done before fitting.

If the tread is even then I'd say you could rotate forward no problem

If it was me though, I'd stick the full set of Goodyears on and sell the other two as part worns, that's just me though

As above - Stick a matched set of 4 on and enjoy the car.

I can just rotate them myself though right without any issues?

Like, can I go and do that right now?

Yes, as long as you stick to the same side of the car it'll be fine, simply as most tyres are directional

So, if I understand correctly, you'll end up with 2 different tyres on the front axle? Personally, I wouldn't want to do that, especially on a quick FWD car. I'd think it'd be better to either keep them on the rear, keep them as spares (maybe find a cheap rim or 2), or as others have suggested just sell them on.

Good choice on the Goodyears though. Let us know how the V3's are!

That's actually what I was hoping someone would pick up.

That Kumho is breaking my heart because I had just fitted the P-Zero all around and a week later I had to put the Kumho on so both have equal wear.

I think what I'll do is just swap them around later on today and see them through the weekend to check for any grip issues. I'll probably then change all 4 when my new tyres arrive on Monday.

For anyone that is interested. I got them for €109 - https://www.tyreleader.ie/car-tyres/goodyear/eagle-f1-asymmetric-3/225-40-r18-92y-443743

My P-Zero's lasted 14 months or roughly 12,000 miles on the front never rotated which I think is a good enough figure!

Just rotated tyres. So much more grip on the front now!!!

Will only run them for a short while... Did not that the tyre pressure sensor went off. Considering our cars are set for revolutions i.e. when it's set, if it loses air the diameter decreases and therefore rotates more often per min...

I expected this since the back tyres would have a slightly different pressure!

I'll keep an eye on it anyway
