I had a 1.9 BXE in a SEAT, also had a 2.0 BKD for four years, I definitely wouldn't buy a 1.9 personally, especially with so many throwing conrods out the engine block now (engine version dependant).
The 1.9 went to a family member cheap as the turbo sounded way worse than the one i replaced on my 2.0, 22k later it is still hanging on.

A mapped 1.9 perks it right up, but a mapped 2.0 is better.

Whatever you do, buy a six speed and not five speed.

I had no issues with my 1.9. The conrod issue is much less prevelant than the 2.0 tdi porous heads.

The 2.0 is smoother / quicker but id say the 1.9 is the more reliabe engine.

I had issues with my car blowing turbos on  my bkd engine and after months of hassle it was the engine breather was blocked and sending oil through the turbo.That's only trouble I have had with mine

We have a 1.9 tdi golf plus dsg with 135k and it's been faultless. Did hear some stories about the 2.0 versions.

I'm looking into getting myself a 1.9 diesel golf Aswel, I'd defo be remapping it as I drove one a few weeks back and found it sluggish enough. The match model is the one you want , you'll get all the bells and whistles.

Jay I remember your 1.9 tdi, how did it respond to the first remap? I assume there ok to remap up to 120 or 130bhp without any worry about standard clutch /turbo?

Just drove a 140 bhp pretty certain it's remapped. Felt like it would keep up with the gti? How to remapped 140 or 170 fair against the gti?

I had a remapped 140 for four years, it was pokey with lots of usable power for everyday driving. Not a million miles off what you are used to in the GTI.

Just had a look at vauxhalls  cdti Sri 150bhp. Apparently remap to 200bhp but why are they so cheap. Seen loads for around £1k-£1.5k for 2006 models.

Apart from vag what other decent options are out there for diesels?

Sorry mate i haven't checked this thread for ages!!!

My car was remapped to 149bhp and 263ft lb at Rtech.
Clutch was fine but the DMF started wobblys after about 3k. To be expected it was over 100k on stock clutch when I mapped it.
I replaced with a Valeo SMF kit for £330 and that was absolutely fine.  :happy2: :happy2:



Vectras are no where near the same league as a Mk5/Mk6 , altho not bad cars on their own.

I have a 2011 140 Caddy 2.0 6 speed for my work van, it's had a re map & it pulls like a train, bags & bags of torque, enough to spin the wheels through the gears, (must get some Goodyear F1s ASAP)
It's comfortable too but I still really enjoy the GTI when I get home, the two are chalk & cheese really.
But the economy!!! Wow, thats a BIGGG difference IMO.

How would a Passat 140 compare to a golf 140 if both remap? Will Passat be too heavy to benefit?

I've got a Skoda fabia Vrs Special Edition. The VRS is definitely one to consider. 1.9 tdi and fairly compact so does shift
