Dougie's Red Mk6 GTi
« on: February 03, 2016, 11:55:57 pm »
Been on the forum a while, mainly just browsing etc, but never introduced myself or that. Think mainly because it's a mk5 forum and there wasn't a section for us mk6 guys .
Anyway after seeing the new section I thought I'd stick a thread up

Bought myself a mk6 gti with a couple not mod's already done a few months back. It's my 3rd car but first German car, have a caddy max for work but don't really count that. I'm coming from a fn2 type r so although similar still very different and still getting used to the golf. Here's a few shots of my old cars.

Loved the type r but felt like a change and to be honest a golf wasn't really something i had been looking at but when this one came up with all the options, such low mileage and a few bonus mod's I felt I had to go for it.
The car has just ticked over 15k and is immaculate
Here's some pics after the only wash I've been able to give it so far  :signLOL:

The red paint definately keeps a clean look longer than my fn2 and I'm glad to not have to keep up with black paint anymore

As it stands the car has a VW Racing cat back and carbon air intake with pipercross stage2 intake pipe so my plans are to get a sports-cat and downpipe and get the bluefin stage2 map I have uploaded for the summer when the weather perks up. Also hoping to upgrade the brakes but just looking into the possible options at the moment such as the ttrs and golf r route.
Just need to replace the ditch finders that the dealer put on the front before I bin the car through lack of grip so will be getting Goodyear eagle f1's all round in the next few weeks since I've had them before and rate them very well for the price.

Anyway I have probably went on a bit so that's all for now, will update as I go along

Red is the best colour!

Looks nice mate. I do love the twin exhausts on the gti.

Thanks mate. Yeah I'll probably be going back to Honda for my next car. Can't whack a bit of vtec  :driver:
Maybe once I've got a bit more power in the golf I might change my mind but and be a full turbo convert  :ashamed:

Managed to get out for a good run in the car last week for the first time. Was surprised at how well it handled and how the tyres coped.
Anyway I replaced those with some uniroyal rainsport 3's a few days later so have some fresh rubber at last.

Here's some pics below. Went up to Aberfoyle and done the Dukes pass and came back through Callander. Was lucky and timed it well so never had much traffic which was a bonus.

Hello fellow TSi engined member. The car looks lovely. make sure you get the timing chain tensioner changed as they have a habit of slipping and trashing your engine. This happened to mine.

Did you have to get a new engine?

I've looked in to it all. The cars under warranty still so haven't bothered. Haven't had any noises so far, touch wood.

That's sh*t. Did it get sorted on warranty or did you have to cover it all yourself?

I got 100% covered after fighting with Skodas UK senior management team. For the cost of the parts I would seriously consider just replacing it
