vcds - vag-com info
« on: February 12, 2016, 04:23:22 pm »
Hi

(VW/Newbie)

From previous posts, its seems like a good idea to do health checks yourself, so Im looking to buy a vcds/vag-com (standard kit) but wanted to know if I could cock things up on the car?

Ive watched  a couple you tube videos and it seems all straight forward, but wanted to know for those of you that use it, if there's any gotcha's or any tips.

I have a Golf mk 5  (2005) 2.0 TFSI 200 PS AXX

Im very new to the VW, so just being cautious.

It's pretty easy to use, but yeah with most things you could cock stuff up if you don't know what you are doing and go into the wrong module and start changing random numbers.

But overall it's good, scans for fault codes and can code things using it. Can also log various things to measure boost/rpm/air pressure etc etc. But it's all a learning curve with the more advanced stuff with loads of guides online.

There are many walk-throughs on the Internet. Most mistakes can be reversed.

If you follow the guide lines you'll be fine  :happy2:

Just don't go coding something you're not sure about end of.

If you get one do a full scan of your vehicle to record all the coding values.

Then if you want to fiddle about take photos or screen shots of each stage so you or anyone asked to help can solve the issue for you. :happy2:
