Anyone on the forum had their main thermostat replaced? Just need a rough idea on cost either from an Independent or Dealer.
Thanks

Is yours dropping temperature when travelling down hills?

Mine used to always sit at 90 on the gauge, whatever. Now it is dropping to about 70 on the gauge when driving down a long hill and climbing again when sitting in traffic.

Using the climate control to display the coolant temp also shows it dropping to about 65.

I'm keen to also hear what other peoples idea of cost to fix is? (would be a dealer for me as I'm useless at fixing things like this... ) Thanks.

Hi. Temp drops when on the move and yes it climbs when in slow traffic. Was told by a mechanic it's only a problem when a car overheats not when it's running cooler. The big issue for me is how it affects the interior heating.

I'd say you're looking close to £200 at an indies and £280ish dealer price.
I had a similar job on a fiesta 1.4 09 reg and it was a pita of a job as two x screws on the stat were visible and the other two were just awkward fecklers  :signLOL: alternator off job too so I'd say I'll be happy to have ago at my tfsi when the weather gets warmer and I have a bit if time to do it.

Cheers mate. Car just passed MOT with nothing needed so might invest in a new thermostat.

How do you do that?

Great, thanks for the link  :happy2: Anyone encountered any problems after doing this? A bit wary of messing the settings up, but looks very useful.

Cheers
