would this fit and give me no battery drain issues, am I right that I can get battery drain if the canbus or something isn't changed??

It will fit, but can give battery drain issues, depending on the age or your car/canbus.
I have a very similar model, 8" but the model without the knobs and it gave be battery drain on a 06.

it will probably give battery drain issues but you can fit a switch between the always live wire on the head unit and car that will stop it draining your battery, that's what I did with mine.
