RCD 510 DAB / hands free phone integration
« on: February 29, 2016, 07:24:19 pm »
Sorry if this has been asked before, I'm picking up a 2006 Gti tomorrow evening. It has the standard head unit (RCD 300 ?) and a six cd changer under the armrest. The car has the mid line dash. If I upgrade to the RCD 510 dab will I lose the multi changer compatibility ? Is there a way to go hands free with my phone with this unit ? I understand I will need a gateway and aerial adaptor, anything else ?

The RCD510 has an integrated six CD changer, you will lose the armrest CD changer but it is a good excuse to replace it with an MDI kit.

It is easy to get an OEM bluetooth, FISCON or even the VW Bury kit for instance.
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

fiscon basic plus works well. I  fitted the overhead mic which is nice and hidden  wire hangers come in handy with a bit of tape :happy2:
Just after I bought the fiscon there was a vw Bluetooth on ebay for not much more  Keep your eyes peeled :happy2:

not sure if you would lose the changer or not, yes the RCD has 6x internal slots, but I have the factory ipod arm-rest connection, and it connects as cd 12. So I can only assume that you can fit a changer to it,
I run a parrot bluetooth with my RCD510.
