Whats your MPG? MK5 GTI (200)
« on: March 03, 2016, 01:30:22 pm »
I've saw a lot of people on here talking about a sudden drop in MPG, wondered what everyone is getting?

I work it out more on miles per tank, as I fill, then red to 1/8 tank, usually 250miles, I rarely do journeys more than 15 miles. If only a longer journey I can see between 280/300 to a tank.

Having owned 3 of these cars that's what I've had return roughly for all of them.

I'm really surprised by my mpg usually about 330-360 to a tank would be happy with anything over 200

That's what I was getting roughly on a 15 plate A3 2.0 TDi S-tronic! The tank is 5 litres smaller on the A3, but still a lot of miles. What sort of journeys are you doing?

I'll have to post again as ive just filled up £50 and it started clicking at £48.40 so I topped it by pulling the nozzle out.
Going to see how many miles I get from that as I travel 38miles per day.  not remapped it's a DSG mainly down the A13 to greys thurrock then back home down Purfleet as the other way is way too long and congested in the way home and waiting times around 45 minutes  :sad1:

My car is also DSG, so keen to see what you get. My car drives 8 miles in the morning then roughly the same in the afternoon the Mrs drops me off at work, takes the wee man to nursery, gets him later, then picks me back up, all very short local journeys.

My car is manual. Journey is 16 miles a day straight into a dual carriage way sitting at 60 then usually 8 miles of the journey stuck at 50-55 behind lorries. My golf tdi 130 done the same weekly run and got 600-660 consistent over 2 years.

My daily journey varies between about 60 miles and 12 miles depending if I'm driving to work or a friend is. Mixture of town driving and A roads/dual carriageways. I rarely see more than 320 miles to a tank of VPower in my DSG GTI.

Interesting to see how other people do.

What effect if any does a stage 1 remap have to economy?

I think the last time i checked i got around 230/250 to a tank... could be wrong though it was over 6 months ago i last wondered

Trip MPG is generally around 25 on my way to work and 28-30 any other time (33/34 if my partner drives it) and the tank average is 26.8 or something...

My journey is about 3 or 4 miles to work on a quiet B road, the poor car generally only just warms up!

oh and im running a standard Map and a set of twin takes  :happy2:

I rarely see 250 miles to a tank  :signLOL: Although my journeys are short and mostly driven in anger. Usually average around 18MPG according to the onboard.

On the opposite end of the scale, I've managed around 410 miles to a tank the year before last when driving across the continent, and that was taking full advantage of the lovely motorways, higher speedlimits, had 3 of us in the car and a boot full of luggage too.

The point of my little story is that there are far too many variables to compare MPG. Driving style and journey type have too big an impact for people to compare, unless like for like.

Average is around 26mpg. On a run it can do 33/34mpg at 80ish (more if you try).

Motorway miles, I'll see 350-370 a tank at 80/85mph with the odd overtake ;)

Short journey miles, I'll see 250-270 a tank, driving with a considered right foot. All out boost city all the time and it's 220 miles max.

Always run on V-Power.

Just something to bear in mind I think some have experienced the P0441 code which brings up the EML on your dash - which some have accredited to over filling/fillign right to the brim. Happened to me, and didn't go until 10k later.
Cheers for the advise mate, I scanned the motor last night and only error being near side and off side side lights errors.

Annoys me when people say that filling up your tank causes an EML

It only exacerbates an existing issue which is one of a few things, such as the activated charcoal in the canister being 'full' and no longer able to absorb and hold the vapours ready to be consumed by the engine.

My car had a brand new canister 2 years ago, since then I have filled my car right to the brim every single time I have refuelled, and guess what....... No EML or faultcode

This 'fault' will always show itself after a refuel, and naturally the more you refuel, the more the canister needs to hold. Given the rate at which the TFSi consumes fuel and the location of the nearest Shell garage, sticking £20 or £30 a time in the car hoping to avoid an EML is not practical

So again, it doesn't cause the EML, if everything was hunky-dory you wouldn't get one!

Rant over!  :happy2: :signLOL:
