i originally was going to go for the ttrs brake setup until someone told me i have to change the master cylinder  :fighting:
Not true. I have the 6 pot Brembo 18Z and rear R32 brake setup with the factory fitted master cylinder and great pedal feel and travel. Already tested the setup on track. Amazing braking power that I won't use on the road unless on an emergency braking.

The TTRS calipers are a good match for the GTI master cylinder.
There were two different master cylinders fitted to the GTI though weren't there?

One with 22 in the part number, one with 23.

We want the one with 23. I'm sure it was you that told me this!
Yes. It's easy to check just by looking at the part. I think only the older GTI might have the smaller MC. My GT Sport with really small brakes from factory has a 22 mm3 MC and my Ed. 30 has a 23 mm3.

Just for reference, I take it the TTRS/RS3 master cylinder is bigger?

Would it be a viable upgrade for bigger 6 pots or 8 pots?

25 mm3. For 8 pot or 6 pot front and 4 pot rear is needed, I think.

Cheers mate. Any benefit on a mk5 with say TTRS fronts and R32 rear or 18z fronts and R32 rear, or would it just be overkill?

If you have a MC with 23 mm3 I don't think you need to worry about upgrading if you want those brakes. I'm really happy with what I have.

If I ever need better I'll upgrade the pads and only later the discs.

Thanks again. I've narrowed my options down to TTRS with 340mm, 18z 350mm, or the Forge 6 pot kit with 356mm.

I'll get R32 310mm rears if and when they come up.

The only question about the Forge kit I have is the price of the discs. I was lucky to get ATE 350 mm discs for less than £100. I won't question their quality, but they're not cheap.

Suppose it depends how often you drive it hard, and how many miles you do.

I don't do trackdays (yet) and average 6/7k a year. Replacing the discs shouldn't be that frequent for me.

Seems there are a few on here upgrading to the Forge kit anyway (Dan Smith and Maxitrol being two) so I'll keep tabs and see how they find them over time.

Not too bad actually... presuming thats for a pair
Forge states price per item £420. Didn't find anything stating that it was a pair.  :sad1:

But they are handed. No mention of left or right hence one would presume it's the pair.

You'd hope so. 840 notes for a pair suddenly seems a bit dear.
