GAP Insurance - yay or nay?

Hello all,

First time poster but I am a browser for my shadow blue mk5 GTi...anyway I have just bought a brand new R line Passat for the good lady and kids...what is the general thoughts of GAP insurance, cosmetic insurance and wheel & tyre cover.

I'm 99% sure I will ignore the cosmetic insurance and then the wheel/tyre cover but not sure either way on the GAP, it is £450 so a bit expensive for a no brainer!

No brainer IMO.... on an expensive new car.

A dealer offered me GAP insurance for around that amount. I did a bit of shopping around and got it for £100 and it covers the car for 4 years

As above, 100% worth it, but also 100% decline it from the dealer. If you're with a specialist insurer, most offer GAP insurance for a fraction of the price.

As said above, I previously worked for Audi £4/500 per policy, you can get the exact same thing online for a 1/4 of that.

If you can't afford to replace god forbid something happened, then take this. I honestly don't know how many people saying "I don't need that", any car, new or old, your losing money the minute you buy it, so for £100 odd quid it's a no brainer.

If buying on finance or if the car will depreciate by a good bit in a short period, essential you have to cover yourself.

I didn't get it on a brand new motorbike and it got written off a month after getting it when someone went into the side of me. They only covered the value of it as second hand despite it having 200 miles on the clock and I was £1200 out of pocket straight away.

So yeah, a no brainer in my opinion

Ouch, sorry to hear that! Have found a quote for £100 online so that now makes it a no-brainer

ALA is well priced and they also price match and if someone else is cheaper they will do 10% off the difference and subtract it he off the matched price.

There are also different types of GAP cover, ie return to invoice value etc... So check the terms!
