Service price
« on: March 14, 2016, 06:20:32 pm »
Nearly fell off my chair earlier when I rang VW for a price to service my car which is now due.
£294.00!!
 :scared:

Just going to take it to my local garage who we know very well and is a great mechanic I think.
Slightly concerned that it currently has full VW dealer service history though.
Can't bring myself to pay the price though! Does it devalue a car much/at all?

Was that for a Major Service I take it, VW charged me £170 for an standard Service. I have just signed up for their Service plan for piece of mind but beginning to think I am paying too much as Main Dealer.

If you get it serviced by a good specialist garage then should not devalue car but it is all about perception as in FSH from main dealer always looks nice to your average standard buyer

Yeah for full service.
Just seems very pricey to be honest!

Got this coming up myself soon. My car has full VW history, and I'm going to approach them soon for a warranty claim on the wings, so I think after adding things up in my case it might be worth going to VW again.

It's true that casual buyers like the sound of full dealer history. And I want as strong a case as I can build regarding the warranty claim.

After that, assuming the wings get sorted, I'll probably use Statller. Anyone who knows anything will know that a service there is every bit as good, if not better than VW.

If your service book is fully stamped up by VW there's justification for sticking with them. It'll appeal to more buyers. Otherwise, find a good specialist.

Only thing putting me off not going to VW tbh, just because it will look good. But long term is to keep the car so it's not like I'm looking to sell within next to years.
I can get it done for 150.00 ... Pays for your dad to do the mechanics books to get discounted prices

Yeah it wouldn't devalue the car exactly, but it might lose appeal over a similar car with full VW history when you come to sell.

It's only services I use VW for. If I used them for everything (as I'm sure some do) it'd quickly get a bit bloody expensive!

That's just a standard service.
The full service checks several different things in the car as far as I'm aware.
If you google it will probably tell you difference somewhere

Just to provide some balance; I actually prefer to buy a car that has service history and bills from reputable independents rather than main dealers.

Firstly because I believe some independents are miles better than the monkeys in most dealers.

Secondly, it's one of the things that can indicate a seller that takes an interest in their car. Going to a main dealer is sometimes the lazy option. The whole "careful lady owner" misnomer.

Thirdly, when it comes to talking over the history of the car, I find independents more open and have more useful info to say if you call them.

However- a good independent is not the same as some no-name garage...that's a sign the car has been looked after on the cheap.

It's £325 at my dealer for a major service, (fixed price) the price went up last month, used to be £299 so I'm not sure how you were quoted £294?
You do get genuine VW parts at the dealerships whereas elsewhere they tend to use universal parts which are cheaper.

No idea, that's the price I was quoted when I rang VW in Birmingham.

I have 3 local VAG specialist garages I know and trust, and all use genuine parts.
