RCD 510
« on: March 14, 2016, 10:51:24 pm »
Hi all looking for a bit of advice

The standard head unit in my 58 reg GTi Pirelli is starting to play up so I looked on eBay at RCD 510's. It looks like they are about £100 but finding it all bit of a minefield

Firstly does anyone have any reliable contacts of where I can get one without being ripped off

I also have the iPod dock fitted as std in the arm rest, multi function steering wheel and the highline computer.

I would quite like a DAB version but not essential and do not want to pay too much as the car is now nearly 8 years old

I seem to remember a chap called Eddie NL who offered these but not sure if he is about any more

All help appreciated

Thanks

I got my RCD510 DAB off ebay, can post link to seller if that helps.
If you do go the DAB option I recommend the VW Polo DAB aerial  :happy2:
Fitting was easy enough although the centre dash vent was a pain to remove.
I coded it in myself, fabulous upgrade with improved sound quality

The ones for £100 are the RCD510 Delphi units. It was made for the Chinese market. The key differences between this and a 'regular' RCD510 are:

Built in USB/iPhone support, meaning no need for an MDI kit
No RDS, so the radio stations have no names

I have one in mine. It's good, but I may be upgrading to an RNS LED soon. I don't listen to the radio so things like DAB and RDS don't concern me.

I am looking into getting an RCD510 for my '06 GTI.
Would be interested to know a link of a reliable place to source a DAB RCD510 and anymore info on the DAB aerial.
Cheers.

How do I know the difference between Chinese and uk versions on the ebay advert. I have noticed the top right button is sometimes 'media' and sometimes 'mute'. How can I tell from the photo. I would happily pay more from a reputable uk trader but just do not know how to recognise one

a Chinese one will simply have arrows as the bottom buttons on either side. A uk RCD510 or at least mine anyway has  radio media and phone on the left. and TIM, TP and setup on the right.

Cheers for the links.

Would you say the DAB aerial swap is a DIY job? Never dropped a headlining before!
