Hey Guys,

So.  I was thinking about my next very minor small cosmetic mod which was to put the dark red GTI badge on my grill.

I bought one off eBay, it came in the post, I got very excited and then I realised that it wouldn't fit.

It came with two screws as can be seen above which I naively assumed would be fine.  As I came to take the original one off it was clipped on. I still thought this would be fine so I tried to get the screws through the existing clip holes.  Sounded simple enough in my head.

Anyway the screw holes were too far apart or two close together and I didn't really want to drill some new holes anywhere or modify my current grill if that makes sense.

To cut a long story short, does anyone know where I can buy a clip based red GTI grill badge?  OR can anyone tell me if this even exists or am I just making it up?  At the moment I'm going round badge less and I feel like the car is a bit naked.

Thanks in advance and look forward to hopefully a simple answer to my long winded question.

Matt.

I couldn't help you there but you can always buy genuine gti silver badge and paint it red.
I have a brand new one if you're interested.

If not then no worries.

Can't believe something has come up that I know about!
I bought the same badge off eBay and soon discovered it wouldn't fit....
Removed the letters from it and my standard gti badge with a hairdryer and pen knife combo & glued the red letters on to replace the original silver....
They don't fit perfectly but I was happy enough with the result....

@damo24 I did consider it before I sent it back for a refund, kind of regretting it now.  Yours actually looks alright to be fair!  Might re order it and just do that - seems the most economical way/the only way to get that exact red.

I brought the same badge. You simply have to file down a part or the honeycomb in the grill to make it fit you won't be able to see it and it's less hassle took me 10 mins

The red letters are a little bit smaller than the silver but you wouldn't notice from any more than a foot away.
The rear letters have sticky backing so you wouldn't even need to glue them if you can get those- I could only find sets of front badge + rear letters

I did exactly the same and filed down the back if the grill so the arms passed through. Easy job and cannot be seen once fitted back together. I went for black on black. Have a look at my thread.

I've re-ordered my badge  so do you mean you just filed the bits where it would normally clip on in the red box below?  Or did you literally file part of the honeycomb?

I filed part of the honeycomb. Try to slot the badge in the grill where u want it placed then u will be able to see which bit needs filing down. You won't be able to see it after the badge is in place and it will look great.

Sllightly off topic, but how easy is it to remove the grill as in your photo?
I want to remove mine to blacken it but ideally needs 24hrs without getting wet, which at the moment isn't goint to happen

Dead easy- 2 screws on top & 2 holding/under the number plate, two clips on top and it lifts up and out
