edition 30

Hi everyone, i'm starting the search for an edition 30, had a few different vag cars in last few year, octy vrs, mk4 r32, mk6 1.4tfsi, mk4 gti, and at present have a scirocco gt and rs4 which im unfortunately having to sell due to an ex wife.

So my point is, my scirocco has a milltek panel filter and map, 260/260 output. I really love the power delivery of the car, turbo spools up nice and early and has lots of grunt, will the k04 in an edition give the same sort of power delivery?

Also it seems the market for used 30's is all over the place, some up for sale around £8500 other almost £12,000 are people over pricing/under pricing?
Whats top spec on these? sunroof,nav......?

Hi leericho if you had the same Milltek panel filter and map a editition 30 you would be above 300 bhp, mine was running 238 standard and went to 300 with just a good remap (thanks rtech!).
There are lots of extras on these, some (like cruise) are easy and cheap to add later but if I had to look again I'd be looking to ideally find one with the more costly extras as standard I.e exenons/sunroof/highline and rns510 head unit (great standard unit with sat nav and some are DAB).

Another thing to consider is manual or dsg? Depending on preference, I prefer the manual to drive but the paddle shift is smart and when remapped the clutch on the dsg is normally fine where as the manual will at some point need to be changed (normally for an updated one).

With the pricing I've noticed the same lately but they're worth only what somebody is willing to pay, genererally the decent ones with the lower mileage are as always the more expensive!

thanks, yes I think im going to have to have a test drive of both boxes, tempted by the dsg. Once mapped and in sport am I right thinking that it will hold gear until its told by me to either change up or down?

Definitely test both as I was all set on manual and did not want a DSG but when I test drove my ED30 with DSG it was an easy choice after that. For me DSG is just in a different league to a manual but you will pay more for a DSG ED30.

As for the price differences I have seen from around 8k to 12k. For me paying near 12k it would have to be one of the later ones so say 08 I think and have low mileage. Also would expect it to be DSG, factory Xenons and other extra spec.

To get one for around 8k and in good condition then would expect it to be higher mileage and earlier year car with probably not much factory spec and manual.

I have seen some with loads of spec and DSG and going cheap which always scares me away as people selling these cars will likely know what they are worth so maybe hiding a problem.

In the end do the usual checks but have a look in the For Sale here as more than likely if a member on here selling it is in good condition and been looked after

Plus as ED30's are in short supply I would not pass up on one that say did not have cruise or parking sensors as these can be easily sought and fitted afterwards for cheap enough.

But Xenons and heated seats will cost you a fair bit if want to add afterwards.

Heated seats are standard on ED30.

The difference between the K03 (your Scirocco and the MK5 GTI) and K04 (S3, ED30, Pirelli) is quite big even in standard form.

As soon as my friend got an ED30 you could tell it pulled noticeably harder at the top end than normal GTI.

I was in a similar position as above when looking for my ED30. Thought I really only wanted a manual until a DSG with the miles and spec I wanted came up. Went to have a look, drove it and bought it. I was really anti DSG but now I'd feel like I was missing something without it. I have big plans but at the moment I'm APR stage 1 which is claimed around 300 and I'm shortly going to get stage 1 on the box too. I think the DSG remap gives you the gear changes you want in manual mode  . For road driving there isn't any real need for more power but more (lots more) is fairly easy to get.
I'd suggest if you do get a DSG the paddle extensions are almost a necessity. There are stick on ones or replacement alloy units to choose from. Test drive both and go for what does it for you the most. You won't be disappointed with an ED

No as far as I am aware all DSG will come with the standard paddles but if you are going to use quite a lot then would recommend getting paddle extensions

I think some early DSG's was an option for the paddles on the wheel but all the ED's will have the paddle switches on the wheel.
I use the paddles a lot so went for the alloy replacement switches. Loose the illumination but they are very well made
