Turbo issues - Help
« on: March 28, 2016, 03:14:15 pm »
Recently had a remap done on my 2005 gti. Only running 240bhp
Since this I am having a few issues with the turbo.  On acceleration in first gear it looses all boost and almost releases all the pressure at 2000 revs and gives a jolt even though I am still accelerating.  I also get a strange flutter sound when accelerating in low revs.  Once I'm in 3rd and 4th gear all is fine.
Can anyone let me know what the likely problem is?  Does this sound like PCV failure?
Any help would be great. Thanks

Has it had a new diverter valve recently? They're a common failure. Especially after a remap, the extra boost pressure is often enough to split the diaphram. With a healthy valve you actually can't hear the boost anywhere near as much as with a split valve. If it's sounding 'hissy' on boost this would be one of the first things to tick off. Get an oem vw revision G.

PCV and cam follower are worth doing too, as they're also cheap and quick.

It's a good idea to get it scanned. If the 'jolt' is caused by a misfire it should throw a code. Coil packs fail and cause misfires.

It could be any number of things. The dv, pcv and cam follower should arguably be renewed every couple of years anyway, so sort those as well as a scan, then take it from there.

Where the best place to buy pvc valve? Vw direct or online?
Where and how do I get it scanned?>

Probably best to get the garage that's doing the work to get one (assuming you're not doing the work yourself).

There's probably someone on the forum close to you that can plug in a laptop for free or a few quid. Usually if you go somewhere to get the codes read it'll cost 40 quid or so.
